Kindergarten for Sonyea

Sonyea headed back to her “little school” as she calls it. Her first pre-school at Head Start is where Zia is going this year. They were both very excited to return, even if it was for just a few hours.  Here’s the link in case you missed it.

She did a great job of reminding Zia how to play nicely with the baby dolls.

And then she did the great big sister move and showed her how to buckle up on the bus! I can’t believe this child fit into the 3 year old’s 5 point harness!! They were also both very sad to leave!

Fast forward to Thursday and it’s time to get ready for Kindergarten. Too bad that wake up call was 2AM!! Yup, she was so excited, she was up for the day at 2AM!! This Momma was not having that. She spent the night tossing and turning in my bed.

She was out of bed before 7AM AND anxious to get ready. She eventually got really excited about wearing her new clothes that Grammie got for us and even picked out her own socks. I told her if she was ok wearing those like that, I was ok with her wearing them.

She was dressed and ready to wait for the bus at 8AM. Oh my kid, Alyssa’s grandma isn’t here today so we don’t have to go out that early!! She was very excited to pack up her backpack with her school supplies and was chomping at the bit to run out the door.

The timer feature on the camera is pretty darn cool. There’s also a “smart portrait” mode that we tried out. Oh, that was FUNNY!! It randomly takes photos when it sees a face and the outtakes were entertaining even if they did blind my five year old!

The excitement was impossible to hide. She was first in line and I even forced her out to take a picture or two. Sorry kid, pictures is what I do!! You should be used to it by now!!!

Waiting is the hardest part!!

And my safety minded child even buckled up her seat belt as the bus was pulling away even though 5 year olds don’t have to wear it. I did get a huge smile and a wave as the bus was pulling away. The excitement was impossible to hide. I’m so proud of my little lady and even more proud of her willingness to enjoy school!

I even got an update from our neighbor who followed the bus to school. Sonyea did great when she got into the cafeteria before school started. She was a little disappointed that she couldn’t stay with her best friend but then she found some friends from last year and seemed to be ok. I look forward to hearing how her day went.
