Zia’s first day

Zia had her first day of Head Start today. It was orientation day and really an open house kinda thing. Sonyea went with us and as the girls told Jimmy “WE STAYED FOR HOURS!!” We did. Over two hours to be exact.

As soon as we got there, Zia remembered going when Sonyea attended. She remembered that her favorite toys were the baby dolls and she remembered that she liked it there.

This time around, it’s all about Zia. Her birthday is listed on the wall, her picture is on her cubby and she has her name and picture on her chair.

When she got dressed for her first day, she insisted on wearing the Rapunzel crown. If my little princess wants to wear a tiara to school, my little princess gets to wear a tiara to school.

At the first home visit with her teachers, she wouldn’t “perform” any of the tasks that was asked of her. After playing for awhile, Zia let her abilities shine. She drew a perfect circle with perfect straight lines. She can certainly talk far exceeding her peers by stringing more than 4 words together. In fact, her teacher heard her speak 4 sentences of many words together. She is holding her crayons and pencils at a kindergarten level and yup, my baby is a freakin’ genius! She has a five year old sister teaching her everything she needs to know, and boy… does this little girl need to know!!

My only concern with this peanut is the bus ride. I stressed about it with Sonyea and I’m stressing about it with Zia. With Sonyea, that first day came along and she jumped right on the bus, barely looking back. Zia, wouldn’t even get on the bus with her peers for the quick ride. She cried and said “no” a lot. I’m worried about a fight for day two. I’ll keep you posted.

We were the last people to leave the school, the girls were playing and then helped the teachers clean up! Without a fight!!

The bus was waiting outside and the door was open. We took that opportunity to jump on so Zia could see the inside. She sat down and Sonyea and I tried to show her how to buckle up but she wasn’t having it. Hopefully that sneak peek was enough to get her excited about riding the bus. Her school is just too far away to drive her out there ourselves.

Her first day was a huge success. The biggest test will be when she goes alone. This mommy is nervous!
