Flooding Part II-9PM

I decided that since I have so much more footage to document, I’m going to do it in another post. I have a lot more photos from home and a lot more photos and links from others.

It’s shear devastation around here. Schools are officially closed for Friday also. 20,000 people have been evacuated and much of the major highways/Interstate is shut down because of mudslides, wash outs or flooding.

I’m going to start with this link. I don’t know these people but I found it posted on Facebook. These are aerial shots of the flooding along the Susquehanna from Conklin to Owego. Much of it is so far under water I can’t make out where these places are.

This photo is from Front Street in Binghamton, across the river from KMart. The caption says (paraphrased) “National Guard is here and says there’s about 20 cracks in it (the flood wall) and can go anytime.” This would cover a lot more houses in the 1st ward if it does.

Gander Mountain, right next door to Toys R Us and seems to have it worse than us.

I fear these companies won’t rebuild since this is the second time flooding has destroyed product and the store in five years. I don’t know what we are going to do without the paycheck.

This is on the south side of Binghamton, the water is over the flood wall, you can’t even tell where it is. Was taken by my friend Jenn W from work.

This next one is River Park, pavilions under water.

The foot bridge extending over the river from downtown to the south side at Washington Street. The bottom was touched in 2006. This year, it’s well over the top.

Walmart in Vestal, underwater.

All day long, we’ve heard various forms of aircraft fly over. We are very, very close to Conklin which is almost 100% underwater and only a half mile from the edge of the river itself. It’s no wonder we flood right here so much. I’m going to post most of these photos without captions except for a few just because there are a ton I want to share.

You’ll find the kids playing on the highway. Yes, we are. Yes, we allowed them. No, don’t call CPS! Seriously, our road was being traveled so much with looky-lous that we were constantly moving out of the way of cars. There are NO CARS on the highway since it ends in a flood so we just popped over the guard rail and had fun.

The State Troopers evacuated their building and made their own entrance to the highway instead of going the back roads.

Not quite up to the bridge.

What the hell was this guy doing???

You can see how far the water has gone down already.

This is how far away we really are.

This was as close to the water as the girls were allowed.
