Goldfish

Facebook is a great place. I’m addicted. I check it a zillion times a day. I’m nosy that way. I get some of my best recipes from there because I know if a friend is posting it, it’s going to be good.

This one came across my feed today.  All thanks to the Pioneer Woman for posting this great link for home made goldfish crackers!  The verdict is in.  But now, the photos.

The page said that it was a great project for kids. Well, it surely started out great! (and why are my children ALWAYS naked??!!) They both got along famously while putting all the ingredients into the food processor.

And the most surprising part was they weren’t sampling the cheese! I’m so puzzled by that. These two adore cheese and beg for it multiple times a day, even when we don’t have any in the house. Sonyea pushed the buttons at the right time and speed and we had perfect shredded yumminess!

I did the next step because I wanted to slowly add the water. The processor was actually jumping around the counter! Probably wasn’t supposed to do that, but the girls thought it hysterical!

I followed the directions and sacrificed a pop can’s five cent return to cut and paste goldfish shaped cutters.

The first cookie sheet was full. Almost a full gross!

Then we stuck it in the oven at 325 degrees (the recipe calls for 350 but ovens vary remember!) Set the timer for 12 minutes (the recipe calls for 15 but watch your oven!) and they were very crunchy and very yummy! Took no time at all to cool.

That’s when the crunching started. They were pushing and shoving over the bowl and I’m surprised they didn’t even up on the floor for the dog. They really are amazing!

PhotobucketYelling “GOLDFISH”!

PhotobucketSaying “goldfish” because her mouth was full!

The fun lasted not 10 minutes of actually cutting out the goldfish. The girls got really bored and then Zia started eating the dough and then Sonyea left and I got really, really bored! Cutting out that many tiny goldfish was tedious! But, I love my girls and try to do fun things with them even if it doesn’t last long.

Next time, we use bigger goldfish!
