Buttermilk Falls-5/27/2011

Jimmy took Thursday night off so he could have the whole day to take the family to Ithaca for some hiking.  We planned on getting an early start and the girls decided to sleep in.  It was past 9am before they even woke us up.  Then add in getting ready, packed up and out the door, it was well after 10am when we even got in the car and on the road.

There were some pretty severe storms that night and even a confirmed tornado in the area so there was a lot of power outages and storm damage.  It was pretty crazy to see all the downed trees and limbs and the mess.  We were one of the lucky ones that didn’t lose power.

The water level at Buttermilk Falls was pretty high comparatively speaking from the last time we went and the girls didn’t really get a chance to go “swimming.”  Sonyea was really looking forward to that and was pretty bummed that she didn’t get a chance to. She did get to wade around a little bit after I fell down and cleaned up some algae with my bottom and ankle.

Zia was a trooper and walked much of the way up.  It really made for slow going and I thought I was going to have a heart attack and die but it was a nice day out and it sure beat working or watching tv.

Normally, I wouldn’t post a picture like this all blurry and crap but she’s just so stinkin’ cute I couldn’t help myself.  It’s hard to get her to sit still so I can take a picture of her.  (which reminds me, one of these days when I get a free minute, I’m going to pull out the manual CD for my camera and learn how to use it!)

Half way up the falls trail, the batteries on my camera died.  Of course they did!!  I’ve commented a bunch of times about how the box for the camera said they were “demonstration batteries only” and they’ve lasted a long time.  Of course they would die, 2 hours from home with no back ups!

Follow the stairs up to find a child. =)
