SUYL-Living rooms and Highland Park

One of the blogs that I read multiple times a week is from a woman named Kelly Stamps. You can find her blog on Kelly’s Korner.

She’s in Alabama and a total southern girl. She’s also very religious and spreads the word of god like no other. Me, I don’t believe in god. I don’t believe in religion. I used to. But things have changed. I’m a science girl. I can see the bible as a bunch of hooey. I also have a ton of friends who are very religious and believe me, I love them and let them believe in what they want and I appreciate that they don’t push their beliefs on me. I think that’s why I can stay friends with so many. We don’t talk about stuff like that.

The point of my story is that I’m not sure why I continue to follow Kelly’s blog. When her daughter Harper was born she was very sick and in the NICU. A bunch of people sent out prayer requests on websites that I frequent and Facebook. I checked out the page. I love babies! Babies are meant to grow up and after reading Kelly’s story and Harper’s story, I’ve grown to know them even though they live in another time zone, in another world so to speak and so I continue reading.

Kelly has been doing a series on Friday’s called “Show Us Your Life…” and this is the first time I’m linking up. This week’s SUYL is Living Rooms. If you are friends/family of mine, you know where I live. It’s not huge, it’s not the lap of luxury but it’s our home. The living room is where we spend most of our time and the TV/computers are focal points in our lives. You can also see my obsession.

I have a hoarding problem. I hoard toys and kids clothes.

This is even mild. We haven’t cleaned up for the night yet and I’m not going to apologize for the mess. This is the way I live. It drives me crazy, really it does but I have a problem getting rid of toys. Getting rid of things they don’t play with is all but impossible. Bins, shelves, toy boxes… it’s all full. The garage is full of toys, the bedroom is full of toys. We just have a lot of stuff.

So many times I look at links for SUYL and there is always the magazine picture living rooms. Spotless, toy free, no dust, perfect wall hangings and decorations.

I’m thinking that even if I had plenty of storage spaces for everything, we’d still have a mess. I’ve seen worse, I’ve seen better. I am just not a neat freak.

So, really… if you don’t like clutter, don’t like messes… don’t come over. And be sure to call ahead of time so we can at least make a path to the kitchen in case you need to use the restroom.

Since there was another incident with the neighbors yesterday, the girls were begging to go outside to play on this amazing, sunny day we headed to Highland Park.

Meet, Ariel and Ariel!

We started watching The Little Mermaid for the zillionth time today while eating lunch. The girls found these rocks and just started singing and pretending to be Ariel. My little Mermaids!!

Zia really decided that she didn’t want to take pictures today. I got a few out of her but for the most part, she was anti-posing today. She’s such a little THREE year old!! So frustrating sometimes. I swear, she’s super lucky she’s cute and EVERYONE adores her.

This little hill on top of Highland Park is my absolute FAVORITE place to take pictures. I’ve gotten a few good ones. I love the depth the background gives the photos. Thankfully, Sonyea was totally into it after I reminded her that I got her a donut on the way here.

The view finder is hard to see through when the sun is glaring on it. These are not the best pictures but I think I really like the fact that the lens focused on the grass instead of the girls. Pretty neat and purely accidental.

These would have been excellent photos if my little baby were sitting next to her big sister. I love this girl even if we clash through EVERYTHING we talk about, do and will do.

A friend decided to meet us at the park since she lives so close and we are always thankful to hang out with them. Before they showed up, I heard “Mommy, can we go run down there?” Ummm, YES. I will never turn down the chance for you to do some exercise!! Run, girls RUN!!

She learned to yell out the base as she ran over it from T-Ball. One more game to go. Hoping it doesn’t get rained out tomorrow.

Tracy brought up Jocelyn. She’s so tiny compared to my girls. I really wanted to get my hands on taking some photos of the baby but she was sleeping and it was pretty breezy/chilly for an infant so I didn’t even bring it up. Besides, the pre-schoolers were a handful anyways!!

I really like Jocelyn as a friend for Zia since she’s so close in age but when Sonyea is around, she totally takes over. She’s so bossy and pushy and has to make sure everyone does what she wants to. So far, most of the kids she plays with don’t seem to mind. I think it bothers me most. One day, she’ll find someone to tell her what to do and I’ll stand back and enjoy it.

I told you, Zia did not want her picture taken. Do you know how hard it is to get multiple kids to sit still, smile AND LOOK AT THE CAMERA??? URG, so frustrating!!

Kelle Hampton, author of Enjoying the Small Things recently posted about being spontaneous. It’s something that we are around here. Most things we do, it’s off the cuff. When we plan our trips to Buffalo, we play it by ear. I try to make things fun and do different things to keep life happier around here. Especially when I’m down. After the incident yesterday and the lack of sleep (don’t even get me started on that!!) I made sure to have fun today. We did. Kelle talks about making the simplest things special, memorable. So for dinner tonight, we had breakfast. That’s not that uncommon around here. We all love breakfast. Hell, we had cereal for lunch today, all of us!! But the one thing that I stole from Kelle was to put a candle in the pancakes. We sang Happy Birthday to Zia and Sonyea. We seriously, expected more of a reaction than this…

I think they were seriously confused.

And Sonyea was just pissed off that her picture turned out all blurry. Oh the jealousy around here.. It has to stop someday, right?
