Better than Reese’s!

I remember as a kid looking forward to Easter every year. I was raised Catholic so we went to church every year, I took religion classes and had the ashes put on my forehead (where does that come from? I really don’t want to know). Anyways, I remember the chocolate, the Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs to be exact.  (I really didn’t have to link to them because everyone on this planet knows what they are unless they live in the jungles of Africa or South America and then I doubt they are reading my family’s blog).  WAY back then, they only came out at Easter.  They didn’t have them for Valentine’s day, Mother’s Day, Flag Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween… you get the picture.  I had to savor my eggs and wait a whole year to get more.  Now they are everywhere, can you blame them?  They taste so good, everyone loves them.

I have a friend who posted the recipe to make your own the other day.  I wanted to slit my wrists because I didn’t have powdered sugar in the house.  I was going to run out and get some but with the price of gas, I thought that would be a waste and well… who wants to waste gas now that it’s $4 a gallon?  I know what you are thinking, “Shut the hell up, Rhonda and get on with the recipe.  My mouth is watering here.”

Yup, feast your eyes on those babies right there. They sure aren’t pretty like the store bought ones but they are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!!!  And the girls helped make the eggs.  I did the chocolate dipping.

There’s another picture for your second bite. You are welcome.

The recipe? Oh yea….  here!!  I cut the recipe in half because I was afraid they were going to suck.  I made a few adjustments.  I added a cup of peanut butter instead of 3/4c because I love peanut butter and it’s always better tasting with more.  I should have used another tablespoon of milk because the mixture was pretty crumbly.  I had a problem with the eggs breaking when I jammed the skewer in it for dipping into the chocolate.  I also used milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet.  They just taste better!!!

Seriously, make these at home.  Make the whole amount because you WILL love them!!  The chocolate stiffens up really fast after dipping because the eggs have been in the freezer.  I had mine in there for over 2 hours because I had to get the living room cleaned up (I make the girls help me now, takes forever but they are learning), the girls to bed and then facebook sucked me in.

One of the easiest snacks to make and definitely the best tasting ones.  I promised some people at work I’d bring them some.  Hopefully, they’ll last long enough to share.  You know what the best part about this is??  No baking!  No burning!  I have two bowls to clean up and a spatula and a skewer.  That’s it.  YAY!
