Apple picking-rewind post

A few weeks ago, way back in October the girls and I packed up to go apple picking. To get out of the house, enjoy the nice weather and do something we don’t normally do.

On her way to school.

I remember it well. It started off as our usual busts. Got to a place that offered wagon rides to the orchard and it was closed on that day. Open all week, except Tuesdays. Yup, that was the day we went. On to Plan B.

Follow the signs to the Pumpkin Farm. And keep driving, keep driving, around the bend, follow the signs on the right… Zia falls asleep as we pull up. It’s a “farm” in the sense that it had an old barn with a ton of equipment out front. A table is set up with a few pumpkins on it. Yea, right. U-Turn and hit up the place we should have gone to. The place I wanted to go to the week before. The place that has NEVER let me down. Really, one should stick with what they know. Sometimes trying new things just isn’t worth it in the long run. But yet we continue to try knowing the “ol’ standby” will always be there!!

I don’t even know the name of the place. It’s in Pennsylvania, not really that far from here. It was the place where Sonyea got to ride a horse for the first time. Loved every second of it!! They didn’t offer that on the day we went but they did have a bounce house set up and a slide. Over charged for the usage but the girls got a lot of enjoyment out of it. This was all right before I had to go back to work so we were doing something fun and lovin’ it before they stopped seeing me until after Christmas.

There comes a time when you just have to put everything out of your mind and have fun. That’s what we did. No time table, no “hurry up, let’s go.” Just run around and play. Have a good time, even if the listening ears don’t work. Funny how I remember that too. The girls were having fun, just checking everything out. I said at least a dozen times “don’t run, you’ll slip on the mud.” Guess what… Sonyea was running and slipped and fell in the mud. My bad Mommy moment reared her ugly face and usual, I still feel bad for what I said to her. Don’t remember the words but I remember that I was angry she didn’t listen, angry she got covered in mud and then angry at myself being stupid and being angry. Happens a lot. I hope I’m not ruining my girls for life.

**Look at that, the name of the place.  Russell Farms.

After composing myself and letting the girls play some more even though I wanted them to pose for more pictures we ventured out to find some apples. And find some apples we did!!

There are a few pictures that I end up taking and just say “WOW, LOOK AT THIS ONE!!!” This happens to be one of them…

I actually tried to get the color leaves behind with the contrasting red in front… I succeeded in a really good picture. No editing needed, if you ask me.

Sonyea is totally into taking pictures now too. Duh, she wants to be just like me sometimes (for now). Constantly asking to take pictures. I don’t let her very often but I did on this trip and it was worth it. She’s great at it.
