First day of school, take TWO

Last Wednesday was her official first day of school. Us parents went with them to learn about her class and meet her classmates. Thursday should have been her first day on the big bus and first day of real class. That didn’t happen with the Flood of 2011!

So today, we tried again. Sonyea had to be woken up and persuaded to get ready. She really wasn’t feeling the whole school thing. She’d rather play computer games and on the iPod.

Once she looked out the door and saw that it was all “dusty” out (really, it was fog. Not sure how she got dust out of that) and that people were starting to line up for the bus, she was all about HURRY UP!

She’s very excited to sit on the bus with her BFF Alyssa. Bummed though that she’s not in her class anymore.

I miss her already!

When this big giant bus pulled up in our front yard, early by the way!!, she was the first one in line to get on. I threw Zia in the car really quick and ran up behind her to grab a photo before she sat down. I made sure to tell the driver that Sonyea is going to her school, not the first drop off and the rest of the kids got on.

She even helped Alyssa buckle her seatbelt. Four year olds have to wear one!

This was Zia and I’s viewpoint for the ride in. We followed the bus up to the drop off to make sure Sonyea did not exit that bus and then we followed the bus over to Sonyea’s school. I really don’t like this set up, especially since Sonyea is the only one on that bus with the driver but at least we know she won’t get lost in the shuffle if she’s the only one.

Once at her final destination, I was not allowed to pull in with her only because the traffic was crazy and there was no place to park. So I pulled up on the hill and watched her. She jumped off the bus and slowly walked up to the front of the school and in she went. I could tell she was very nervous because her hands were right up by her mouth wishing she had her blankie. I’m so proud of her and now that she knows how to do it, she’s going to be even more confident tomorrow.

Now, off to focus on a certain little 2 year old who is singing with Ariel!
