Flooding 2011

Our camping trip was cut short due to Hurricane Irene. Tons of rain and wind, we just weren’t comfortable riding it out with only a tent to cover our heads.

We got home in time to see all the flooding of the creek right up the road. Any time the Susquehanna river rises, so does the Stanley Hallow Creek because it’s so close.

Looks like our park playdate for Tuesday will be postponed!

Since we did so much driving for camping, I decided we’d walk down to the park for pictures. We even ran into our neighbor friends.

A few hours later, we had to run out to hit the grocery store for dinner and the water was even higher at the park.

The water was up to the very bottom of this grill when we drove by later.

It’s pretty crazy how fast this water was flowing. I joked about letting Sonyea swim in it and she actually got upset when I wouldn’t really let her! So I compromised and let her play in the puddle at the walking park.

Zia really enjoyed her time in the water too!! She LOVES water!

I felt bad for this spider. He was doing his best to swim to the edge of the puddle but the current kept pushing him back. By the time I got done taking photos s/he was running through the parking lot.

Since we had to go out to get some groceries, we took the long way through Conklin to survey the damage and flooding. We weren’t the only ones driving around gawking either!

This is River Park. Totally under water. You couldn’t even drive down Main Street to get to the park, let alone get into the park.

Across the way is the Park Diner where we had lunch the other day. Amazing what a weeks difference makes. Not so pretty anymore all gray, windy and rapidly moving water!
