Alpaca farm

Deciding to do something different sometimes is easy. Enjoying it, well, that’s another story.

The drive out to the alpaca farm in Apalachin was longer than I had intended. Got there a few minutes late, no big deal but the alpacas had something else in mind.

They were penned up near the barn and when we all got into their yard, the lady opened the gate and all they wanted to do was eat the grass. They wanted nothing to do with being petted. They wanted nothing to do with the dozen kids running around. They wanted nothing to do with anything but that nice grass which they can have any ol’ time.

Sonyea did get her hands on a few but as soon as the animal realized it was being touched, it bolted as fast as it could go.

Zia, well, she spent 97% of the time attached to my hip. Literally, I had to hold her.

I love turkey vultures. I can’t explain it, I can’t tell you when I first saw one. I can’t tell you what makes me look for them all the time. I just think they are cool!! There were a bunch circling the farm and enjoying the radio tower.

This poor girl kept trying and trying.

I kept yelling at her to not chase the animals.

She was persistent!

My girl wanted so badly to get her hands on this little baby. That damn baby wanted nothing to do with my girl. All I wanted to do was reach out and grab one by the neck just so everyone could pet a damn alpaca. I’ve caught llamas and guanacos alone all my career. I could have done it in a heartbeat but alas, my zoo keeping days are over and I didn’t want to offend the owner. So we went about trying to lure them.

Grass in hand.

She saw that baby alone and tried to touch it. I don’t think Zia got to touch one.

We tried to hit a playground afterward but neither girl was having it. Zia ended up falling asleep on the car ride back and I had no idea, otherwise we would have just gone home but instead I had no idea she was sleeping behind me and I stopped for some lunch.

I love eating here and hanging out by the water. I just keep wishing to see a Bald Eagle fly by. We saw one over the river on the way back into Binghamton but it was flying the other way and I was driving on the highway at 65mph. Not really good conditions for getting a good picture.

Our area really IS pretty!

And there’s animals around to enjoy it.

Super zoom in on that rock from the first picture.

If you can get past the crap that get dropped everywhere from the human species.
